On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the seniors in our Architectural Engineering Technology and Renewable Energy bachelor degree programs will present their senior class capstone engineering design project. The presentation will be on our Randolph Center campus (in Conant Building Room 102, known affectionately as “The Pit”) and run 3:00 PM to approximately 4:30 PM. Scott A. Sabol, P.E. and Nathan Mascolino, P.E., invite you to watch the presentations in person and to ask questions. Remote viewing via Zoom is an option.

At the conclusion of the presentations, there is time for questions, and we sometimes ask practitioners in the audience to give words of advice to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. The presentation should run 45-60 minutes. If you cannot come for the whole time, feel free to come for as long as you are able.

This year's students are doing a feasibility stuff of renovating Old Dorm, a building on the Randolph campus of Vermont State University, into apartment-style living for traditional and nontraditional students (and possibly others). The team comprises Sandy Botros (AET), Tay Finnikin (AET), Ajay Magar (AET), Shane Mapes (Renewable), Adam Melendy (Renewable), and Walt Moore (AET). Among other objectives, they are trying to make the building Net Zero with regard to energy and climate impacts.

A brief description of the project can be found at this website; the information is from early in the semester, and the project descriptions will be updated as they near completion of their work (shortly before the presentation):

(Go to the site, select “2025 Project” at the top, then double-click the PDF icon to view.)

The team will discuss the goals of the project, the specifics of their architectural design and engineering systems, issues they considered, plus costs and other related information.

With warmest regards,

Scott A. Sabol, P.E.
